Network Issues

There seem to be some network issues around the server which are affecting connections to the server. I have emailed the server administrators to get them to look into this because it is affecting several of my systems... but being the weekend I don't suppose we will get too quick a response from them...

I am actively looking at sourcing a new server to replace the existing server because it is now quite old and could do with a bit more memory for us too... but that will take time to organise...

Smokin???

One of the Kalendale servers has decided to go somewhere - quite sure where it is headed I don't know yet... The last message I got from the server a few minutes ago was that it was experiencing a very heavy CPU load but that none of the processes were running at more than 0.1% load :-P Hope its not smokin!!!

When I can get into it I will restart it and get people back online. Domains affected:

Servers and Hackers...

If you have noticed the server running a bit slow over the past week it is because I have been running a constant battle with a bunch of hackers who have been trying to use our server for a DDOS attack on others. I have spent many late hours trying to identify the method by which they gained access as well as banning the 'normal IP addresses' to slow their access.

I have finally identified several vulnerabilities in the control panel software on the server and have applied all known fixes - now we wait and see if it has worked...

In the mean time I have upgraded the server software to use a different mail transport system as well as upgrading anti-virus and anti-spam measures. After a late night / early morning I left a bit of a hole in the system and allowed quite a bit of spam through... Sorry ;-)

The Woes of working past midnight...

Sometimes it is just better to go to bed and wake up in the morning to see the big pile of mess... This time UK2.net seems to have gone off the face of the planet... Now I'm sure that somewhere there is a status message saying something is going to happen and that everything will be OK - but when you are trying to get a shopping cart working and in the middle of editing files that point to secure financial servers... you can't just say "Oh well, I'll wake up and fix it in the morning!"

So instead of doing that I have decided to write another blog entry on Kalendale to say "It's not my fault" again! ;-) And yes it is past midnight - but someone has to do it when people are asleep...

[update] An hour of down-time and no light at the end of the tunnel... thinks it's bedtime and we'll just have to face the flack in the morning... well, in a few hours time!!!
