one of those days again... PDF Print E-mail

One of those days again...

Just when you figure that you have sorted everything out because the error messages stop and things looks like they are all doing what they should... you walk out the door to go somewhere and no sooner you walk out the door, everything falls in a very messy pile!

Well, it seemed to be one of those days again today - I thought I had left the spam filtering in a state where people may be able to check the spam quarantine folders to see if they have missed any important stuff and instead of that happening, all the spam in the world seems to leak through my filtering instead! Not quite sure what I did but after cleaning everything and starting again I came across a few parameters that had changed without me knowing. Aparently my spam engine when politically correct or something and stopped allowing me to use "rebuild" and I had to change that to "sync"... Seems like my rebuilding the spam filtering has not been going according to plan for a few days and I had to clean out the filters and start again!

I think that it is right this time and I will be monitoring the whole mail log file and not just the "spam" lines which seemed to diminish each time I made a change (hence I thought I was winning!) lol

Nice to see spam being rejected and quarantined again... So if you need your domain changed so you can go through your spam (not for the feint of heart!) then let me know and I will add you to the list of spam I save and regurgitate!

Midnight Working Woes PDF Print E-mail

The Woes of working past midnight...

Sometimes it is just better to go to bed and wake up in the morning to see the big pile of mess... This time UK2.net seems to have gone off the face of the planet... Now I'm sure that somewhere there is a status message saying something is going to happen and that everything will be OK - but when you are trying to get a shopping cart working and in the middle of editing files that point to secure financial servers... you can't just say "Oh well, I'll wake up and fix it in the morning!"

So instead of doing that I have decided to write another blog entry on Kalendale to say "It's not my fault" again! ;-) And yes it is past midnight - but someone has to do it when people are asleep...

-DJ

[update] An hour of down-time and no light at the end of the tunnel... thinks it's bedtime and we'll just have to face the flack in the morning... well, in a few hours time!!!

[update] Ok, so I overslept :-P

Spam Attack PDF Print E-mail

Under Spam Attack

We are currently experiencing very high loads on the server as we are being spammed by what looks like a Korean consortium... I will slowly but surely be able to block them but it could take a short while...

-DJ

Update:

The Spambot continue to pound our systems - I am slowly getting to grips with who it is and will have it sorted before too long...

Update2:

The Spambot continue to pound our systems. Just running a few tracking scripts - not too long now...

Update3:

The Spambot continue to pound our systems less and less :-) So far identified 4000 machines involved in this spam attack - slowly getting them all banned from ALL of my systems!

This does mean that if you are unfortunate enough to have had your machine subverted by this spambot then I'm afraid you will probably not be able to even read this ;-)

Update4:

Given up counting the number of machines trying to splat the server - instead I have set up an outomated script that will simply ban each new address that they try to send spam from. Simple but effective solution - eventually they should see the light...

Update5:

Splat - Splat - Splat - like flies against a wind-shield... They don't know how to give up... At least all our mail should now be catching up and getting through!

Final Update...

No more splats! Looks like their spam engine finally gave up the ghost and realised that I had banned it from trying the servers... Took almost 4 hours for the splat to stop, but I think it's safe to go out and clean the wind-shield now :-P

e-hosting.com Gone, presumed innocent...

Looks like one of the service providers that we use has disappeared for a while :-P Not sure what has happened or if they have noticed - but I have...

This should only affect debenridingclub.org (sorry for this guys - but things happen and they always seem to happen on holidays)

Will try to get things back asap but until I can get hold of them we may be waiting a while :-(

[update: 20:20]

It seems like there are network issues - whether it is someone trying to break the server or what I cannot tell from here - but so far nothing is lost, just going rather slowly!
